Silver Jubilee Road Forest Drive Leaflet - the annotated leaflet below was from the Menzion House B&B..
The Silver Jubilee Road was opened in 1977, the Silver Jubilee of HM Elizabeth Queen of Scots, as a vehicular forest drive - however, the route was only open to public vehicles for a short period. The sitka spruce trees were planted in the early seventies and by 1977 were at the thicket stage. Seven viewpoints were recommended - however in less than twenty years the views were no longer as the Sitka grew rapidly obscuring the views. However by 2010 the commencement of clear felling of the trees brought back many of the vistas that had not been seen for many years. More about the Jubilee Road on page Jubilee Road.
