TWEEDSMUIR PARISH HISTORY.

Talla Railway.

Level Crossing at Kingledores.

There was one level crossing on the rail route and this was just south of Kingledores.   It was initally a manned crossing with metal gates and a small house for the crossing keeper.   However some time into the project it must have beeb decided that a manned crossing was not required and the gates were removed and the house became a residence for members of the Water Company.  The house was dismantled at the end of the project.

One of the metal gates has survived and is presently being used as a field gate to access the Cycling Club Bothy site.  It should be noted that the cross girder design of the gate replicates that on the Tweed railway bridge.   More about that bridge in section6 above.

It would be a good idea to have the gate refurbished and painted.   It would normally have been white with a red disc.
