Thomas Hope a gamekeeper at East Lodge, Kailzie House,unlike other Hope families he was only in Traquair Parish for a few years. He and his family appear in the 1841 Census for Traquair but are in Jedburgh for the 1851 census before emigrating to Australia in 1856. By the 1851 Census the family had expanded including Richmond Hope(b1844) and Alice Hope (b1846)who are both listed as being born in Peeblesshire which presumably was at Traquair.
